Drizzle olive oil in a large skillet and heat over medium-high setting.

Add sliced onions and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3 to 5 minutes until softened. If including mushrooms, add and cook for an additional 3 minutes.

Push vegetables to one side of the pan. Add ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until browned with no pink remaining, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Incorporate garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly and cook for 2 minutes.

Lower the heat. Place a slice of provolone cheese over the surface of the beef mixture. Cover and allow to melt for 2 to 3 minutes.

Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting completely through.

Evenly distribute the cheese-topped beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.

Optionally toast the rolls for added texture and serve the sandwiches hot.
